3 Days Ouarzazate to Erg Chigaga Desert Tour | 2 Nights

Your Erg Chigaga desert adventure begins in the morning with pickup from your hotel or riad in Ouarzazate.

Leaving Ouarzazate behind, we travel south across the Anti-Atlas Mountains toward Agdez. Along the way, you will see changing landscapes as the mountains give way to the green palm groves of the Draa Valley.

Our journey continues to Tamnougalt, where you can explore its historic Kasbah and traditional architecture. The area is known for its old ksars, fortified buildings and fascinating history.

We then follow the Draa Valley, traveling alongside the Draa River through palm groves and traditional Berber villages. The contrast between the green oasis and the surrounding arid landscapes makes this one of the most scenic areas in southern Morocco.

After lunch, we continue toward Zagora, an important town and historic gateway to the Sahara.

In the afternoon, we visit Tamgroute, known for its traditional green pottery, historic library and underground ksour. You can meet local craftsmen and learn about traditional Moroccan pottery production.

After the visit, we return to Zagora for dinner and an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel or riad.

After breakfast, we leave Zagora and continue south toward Mhamid, the last major settlement before entering the deeper Sahara.

Along the way, we pass through desert villages and stop at Ait Isfoul before reaching Mhamid. This small desert town is widely known as the gateway to the Erg Chigaga dunes.

From Mhamid, the real desert adventure begins.

We leave the paved road and travel approximately 60 km off-road through the Sahara toward Erg Chigaga. The scenery gradually becomes more remote, with wide open desert landscapes, rocky plateaus and eventually enormous golden sand dunes.

Upon arrival at the Erg Chigaga desert camp, you will have time to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

In the late afternoon, climb onto a camel and head into the dunes for a memorable Sahara sunset camel ride. Watch the sun disappear behind the golden dunes and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the desert.

Return to camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner.

The evening can include music around the campfire, local Berber hospitality and time to admire the stars far away from city lights.

Overnight: Erg Chigaga desert camp

Wake up early if you wish to experience one of the most beautiful moments of your Erg Chigaga desert tour: sunrise over the Sahara dunes.

After sunrise, enjoy breakfast at the camp before beginning the return journey.

We leave Erg Chigaga and cross the spectacular desert landscapes toward Lake Iriki. Although normally dry, the lake and surrounding area form part of the remote Iriki National Park and offer impressive views of Morocco's desert wilderness.

Continue by 4x4 toward Foum Zguid, a small town located at the edge of the Sahara.

From Foum Zguid, the route continues north through the Anti-Atlas landscapes toward Tazenakht, a town famous for traditional Moroccan carpet weaving.

After the journey through the mountains and desert landscapes, we continue to Ouarzazate.

Arrival in Ouarzazate marks the end of your 3 Days / 2 Nights Erg Chigaga desert adventure.
